About Soot

diesel, diesel smoke, fuligem, russ, schwarzer rauch

The soot, also known as black smoke, is one of the variants of pure carbon performing in amorphous form, forming a colloidal dispersion of very fine particles.

Soot is also known as carbon black and consists of finely divided particles, which are obtained by thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) or partial combustion of gaseous or liquid hydrocarbons.

Carbon compounds have a wide range of toxicity. The carbon monoxide present in the exhaust gases of combustion engines, is extremely toxic to mammals and, among them, humans.

Besides being toxic and cause cancer, soot causes serious damage to the engine, the premature wear, damaging its components and generating high costs maintenance and rectifies.
